Michael was elected the Secretary/treasurer of the Australian Branch of the IRE. Wayne was confirmed as Branch President for a 2 year term.

RefMet have been awarded a large multi-discipline study by a local alumina refinery with a view to extend the life of a major asset. This includes mechanical, refractories and some FEA issues.

Michael made a second trip to China, for a major international materials consultancy, to conduct an audit on a RKEF/AOD based stainless steel plant in the South West of Guangdong Province.
Michael conducted his one day refractories training course in the La Trobe valley. This was attended by representatives of all the major power stations in the area.
Michael was retained by a major finance company to audit the refractory failures in a Boiler in WA.
Michael attended the National IRE conference in Sydney, where RefMet was a Conference Sponsor, and presented a paper entitled “Development of Refractory Repair Protocols at Redbank Power Ltd, Mt Thorley, NSW”.
Michael conducted a 3 day training course around the API 936 standard at the Marriott Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, for Uni Strategic of Singapore.
Michael was retained by Ban Phuc Nickel Mines to be their technical liaison with Outotec, (Ausmelt Division), Melbourne during a process study for a potential nickel smelter in Vietnam
